Introducing hsbDesign 30: Connecting Design to Production

Offsite construction depends on one thing above all: the model has to be right, and it has to stay right as it moves from designer to shop floor. Every manual handoff along that path is a chance for data to drift or details to get lost. That’s why today, we’re excited to reveal a massive step forward in addressing these requirements: hsbDesign 30 for Revit® and AutoCAD®!

Version 30 strengthens the connection between design and production across hsbDesign for Revit® and AutoCAD®. New capabilities help teams keep project data and framing configurations consistent, reduce manual rework, and move more smoothly into tools such as hsbMake and hsbView.

Together, these improvements bring designers and manufacturers closer to one connected workflow from model to factory floor.

‍

But First, What is hsbDesign for Revit® and AutoCAD®?

‍

For those new to this platform, hsbDesign brings advanced timber detailing directly into Autodesk Revit® and AutoCAD®, allowing designers to work within the software environments they already know without switching between applications or learning a separate design platform.

Built for timber construction, hsbDesign helps teams create detailed, production ready models faster by automating repetitive tasks, supporting complex detailing, and giving designers the flexibility to adapt projects without unnecessary constraints. By keeping design and manufacturing information connected in one workflow, teams can reduce errors, minimize rework, and preserve the accuracy of data as it moves toward CNC production and assembly.

hsbDesign also supports efficient model exchange through tools such as the IFC Import Manager, making it easier to categorize and convert imported elements from other software platforms and bring them into the hsbcad workflow.

With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at the top five features in hsbDesign 30, officially released on September 15, 2026.

‍

Top 5 New Features in hsbDesign 30 for Revit®

‍

Timber Percentage

Calculating the timber percentage required for building-permit approval is now automatic. Simply define the calculation area on walls and roofs, adjust it as needed, and the area and percentage are calculated for you and placed directly on your shop drawings, ready for submission. Fully supported for both the Dutch and UK markets.

‍

Project Storage from hsbDesign for Revit®

Sending a project to production no longer requires a full hsbMake Office installation. A guided dialog lets you store a project into hsbMake straight from Revit®, without consuming an extra license. This keeps the handover from design to production simple and easy to scale across teams.

‍

Inject CAD model data into Revit® Elements

CAD data now stays intact through the full round trip into Revit® and back. A dedicated data pipeline preserves each element's identity, keeps CAD metadata visible inside Revit®, and applies only the changes on re-import, so connections and parameter mappings remain intact instead of breaking.

‍

FSE Import: Merge Framing Styles, Connections & Opening Details Across AutoCAD® and Revit®

Framing rules and configuration, including framing styles, connections, and opening details, can now be imported into any document and merged safely. An entire framing project can be imported and merged, with naming conflicts resolved automatically and required families imported alongside in Revit®. This keeps framing rulesets consistent and reusable across both Revit® and AutoCAD®.

‍

hsbView in hsbDesign for Revit®

‍

Reviewing a project no longer means falling back on the older Shop Drawing Explorer and PCC files. A new ribbon command opens the current project in hsbView directly from Revit®, using the selection options you already know.

These are just a few of the highlighted features and improvements included in hsbDesign 30 for Revit®. Many other updates and enhancements have been implemented to deliver a more polished and efficient user experience. Top 5 New Features in hsbDesign 30 for AutoCAD®

‍

Individual properties in the Detail Editor

Adjusting beam properties no longer means detouring through property-mapping plugins. Everything you need to fine-tune a detail is now handled directly in the Detail Editor, so configuration stays fast and simple even for complex setups. Production-critical settings are fully in your hands, right inside the design environment, cutting down on the technical overhead that used to slow down everyday adjustments.

‍

Merge Framing Styles, Connections & Opening Details Across AutoCAD® and Revit®

Framing setups no longer have to be rebuilt from scratch for every new project. You can now move Framing Styles between drawings and choose exactly what comes with them, so only what's actually needed gets transferred, and your drawings stay clean. This makes it far faster to standardize framing setups across an entire team or company.

‍

Rothoblaas - Extension, Update, and Cleanup of Connectors

Keeping up with the latest hardware options no longer requires looking outside hsbcad. The latest Rothoblaas product range is now available directly in your workflow, with more accurate connector geometry you can rely on. The catalog itself is also easier to navigate, so finding the right connector takes less time.

‍

Inventory Manager

Managing beams and sheets no longer means juggling separate files and drawing-specific settings. Everything now lives in one central place, so your data stays consistent and easy to reuse across drawings and projects, and there's far less risk of settings drifting out of sync between them.

‍

hsbView in hsbDesign for AutoCAD®

A new ribbon command puts hsbView right at your fingertips from within hsbDesign, giving you faster access to visual project review and a consistent experience across the entire hsbcad product line, replacing the older Shop Drawing Exporter.

‍

While these features significantly enhance core workflows, they represent only a selection of the updates in hsbDesign 30 for AutoCAD®. You can review the full list in the official release notes at hsbcad.academy.
